AVPOA Update - Legal Update, Heard on the Street, and Committee Reports
Our Attorney, Scott A. Pullins, has asked for Judge Otho Eyster to be removed temporarily from all of Pullins' cases. On May 6, 2009 Judge Eyster removed himself from those cases, including the derivatives action filed against some of the current and former officers and directors of the AVPOA. Chief Justice Tom Moyer of the Supreme Court of Ohio will name a visiting judge to preside over all of Mr. Pullins' cases.

Lion’s Club Locked Out Of Clubhouse
Question: will this management goof be another snafu that the Board overlooks when calculating Harmer's salary increase this month?
AV Employees
Being Fired
We have heard of two employees being fired/let go. Is this a cost saving move? If so it is contrary to what was supposed to happen….cost savings were not to be achieved by getting rid of staff.
Committee Updates
Property Committee (May 4, 2009) Judy Fagert and Julie Arnold are Co Chairmen and members are Ed Arnold, Margaret Elliott, Chris Gustafson, Sharon Harper, Sharon Holmes, Jim Jennessee, Fran Kovach, Vince Marcellino, Kay Myers, Lorraine Stanson, Don Ward, Carol Webb, and D.J. Young.
The committee learned that the upstairs of the Clubhouse is now locked up and will have only key card access. The committee members were told that the Board had approved this action as it will save money on the utility and attendant costs for this building. Harmer had supposedly consulted with the clubs using this facility and they had agreed to move their meetings to FV. However, it seems that the Potluck group, the
Editor’s Note: Hopefully the Board will be as cost conscious when deciding on Harmer’s salary increase this month as they are in downsizing the owners privileges. Cost cutting should be applied to all facets of the budget and this would include salaries.
Other items discussed during Old and New Business were that the Board still has not responded to this committee’s request for consideration regarding the rules for the message boards; that property owners’ questions at Board meetings are never answered; and that duplicating the wooden apple symbol previously on the barn with a similar cut out apple would have been too expensive.
Editor’s Note: I believe that the former apple might have been a gift from the Crafters’ Club. Now we have only two active members, Bob and Joan Sichel. In the past this club has contributed greatly to the Valley. Hopefully they will be able to recruit new members in the near future.
After the meeting was adjourned, the committee members proceeded to inspect the marina and maintenance building areas. Both were in good condition. There was some discussion among the committee members as to the real need for an expensive addition on the existing maintenance building since the real purpose of this addition would be to house three tractors and two dump trucks. Some of the committee members thought that a three sided shed might be a more economical solution.
Editor’s Note: This committee is largely responsible for the improved upkeep of the AV facilities and properties. In additional to the annual inspections, the monthly meetings give members a chance to alert the rest of the committee as to any property problems or needs that they have either seen or that have been reported to them by other owners.
Lake Committee (May 4, 2009) Bob Neumann is Chairman and members are Bob Blue, Curt Campbell, Maurice Cea, Margaret Elliott, Judy Fagert, Bill Gordon, Roy Landskroner, Bob McLaughlin, Sally Slonaker, and Carol Webb.
The Fish Club will be manning a concession stand near the front entrance on Memorial Day.
Elections Committee Correction - Betty McLaughlin and Marilyn Reaser are the co chairmen.
Editor’s Note: A very large ballot box has been built to
house the incoming ballots. A double lock system is being used. One padlock was purchased by Harmer and the other by Betty
McLaughlin. Both padlocks have to be
opened to gain access to the ballots.
All ballots are being deposited in the box and this includes those that
the post office was unable to deliver. The
box will not be opened until the votes are to be counted. As large as the box is I am sure that the
vote counting will need to be done at the administration building.
